There is so much more to Zakynthos (or Zante) than golden sands, turquoise waters and vibrant nightlife, if you venture away from the beach resorts you'll see that the island has some surprises in store!
The Blue Caves (below) in the north offer an amazing seascape of natural arches carved by erosion and brilliant azure waters in the deepest cavities that are at their most striking in the bright light of the morning. Smugglers Cove (left) accessible only by sea is home of the shipwreck, the romantic scene that adorns many a postcard. A deep crescent of white sand with the half buried shell of a steamer that struck the beachwhile on a cigarette smuggling expedition.
Bochali (below), overlooking Zakynthos Town is

situated on the slopes of a green hill and surrounded by colourful gardens. This area of historical interest and traditional architecture is home to the Venetian Castle, the Nautical Museum and the St George of Filikon Chapel. It was here on Strani Hill in 1823 that the national poet of Greece, Dionysios Solomos wrote the poem that was later set to music and officially became the National Anthem of Greece, 'The Hymn To Liberty'. The sulphur springs at Xinthia with their distinctive aroma are said to have therapeutic healing qualities and entice visitors with skin conditions and arthritis to bathe in the soothing waters. Askos Stone Park is a nature lovers paradise where woodland walks and nature trails meander through the flora and fauna that provides a sanctuary for the parks'inhabitants; Wild hawks, amphibians, birds, insects,

and the 'Platonia', an endangered species of Deer. Vast enough to offer diversity but small enough to be explored, taking the time to discover Zakynthos (Zante) will engrave images on your memory that will be enjoyed for years to come.
