Kefalonia's unusual shape is due to the pristine sand and pebble beaches that pepper the coastline. Wild horses roam the slopes of Mount Enos, Loggerhead turtles lay their eggs on the south coasts beach and rare monk seals emerge from emerald waters to bask in the sun at remote and isolated spots. Kefalonia's profile was greatly raised when Louis de Bernieres made the island the focus of his best selling novel 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'. Steeped in centuries of fascinating history and graced with such spectacular natural beauty, it's easy to see why Kefalonia has enchanted and inspired so many. |

- Kefalonia has beaches scattered throughout the island, including the picturesque Myrtos (above)
