Greek Island Holidays | Skiathos

Greek Island Holidays | SkiathosIf you are a sun worshipper then this is the island for you. This tiny gem of the Sporades islands may only be 46 square kilometres but it boasts some of Greece's finest beaches. Although never officially documented, there are believed to be more than 60 of them.

The choice of beaches ranges from popular Koukounaries with it's kilometre long crescent of deep golden sand shelving gently into clear blue waters and offering an array of water sports for the more energetic holidaymaker; to Lalaria, only accessible by boat and one of the most photographed beaches on Skiathos island, thanks to the shimmering white pebbles and limestone archways that only nature can create.

Much of the islands interior is forested, deserted and criss crossed with some wonderfully scenic walking trails for those looking to escape the heat and crowds and explore off the beaten track.
The town of Skiathos is laid out like an amphitheatre with white washed houses, red tiled roofs and tiny balconies overflowing with colourful bougainvillea.

Explore the narrow cobbled back streets awash with tavernas and cafe bars, or head down to the waterfront to dine at one of the open air tavernas or follow the coastal road from the harbour to party the night away at one of the summer music clubs.

Radiating out from the town are several laid back beach resorts consisting of small clusters of tavernasand a handful of accommodations. Whichever resort you choose you are never more than a few kilometres from the town so your holiday in Skiathos can be as lively or as low key as you choose.
