Samos, one of the greenest of the Greek islands, sits in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea close to the Asia Minor coastline. This large long and mountainous island was once one of Greece's wealthiest and the ancient, medieval and modern structures testify to the importance of the island both in the past and present. Samos has the highest mountains in the region dominated by Mount Kekis which rises to approximately 1,450 metres.
A dramatic and highly indented coastline peppered with long sandy beaches and small shingle coves and an interior abundant with fresh water springs and magnificent mountain ranges. Small plains and valleys lie between
gently rolling hills full of olive and citrus groves and vineyard covered slopes produce the local Muscat grape the source of the famous Samos wines exported all over the world. The island's irresistible combination of sunshine, warm waters and beaches set against a truly spectacular backdrop of scenery will please windsurfers and walkers, mountain bikers and sailors. Home to the mathematician Pythagoras, the philosopher Epicurus, the fable writer Aesop and the astronomer Aristarchus.
Whether you are a sun worshipper, an explorer of history or a dedicated sports enthusiast this magical island embraces its history, archaeology, natural beauty and combination of cultures to charm all its visitors.
